The RAH Band was formed by Richard Anthony Hewson (RAH) in 1977, and launched with ‘The Crunch’, a strange compelling instrumental which was a mixture of glam stomp, space age jazz and futuristic pop that was recorded DIY style in his bedroom.
The single reached No.6 in the UK singles chart and launched a career that has spanned 25 studio and compilation albums and over 40 singles, enjoying chart and sales success in both the UK and a number of overseas territories.
Richard Hewson is still recording today and this collection of his recordings covering the period 1977-1984 maps his illustrious beginnings and reveal a singular talent able to filter jazz and jazz funk through pop to both creative and commercial effect.

BEATLESのアレンジ、ハービー・ハンコックやジェームス・テイラーはじめ多くの名盤に関わり、ロンドン・フィルハーモニー管弦楽団まで様々な仕事で知られる英国の名プロデューサー、アレンジャー、音楽家Richard Anthony HewsonによるシンセサイザーポップバンドThe Rah Band。サンラーのラー神やムー大陸を想起させるようなバンド名は彼の名前の頭文字R.A.H.であります。1976年にスタートした彼らの1983年の3rdアルバム「Going Up」。愛し合う二人は星からのメッセージをテレパシックに感じ取り、シンセサイザーサウンドの煌めきと共に宇宙を駆ける。冒頭の「Messages From The Stars」でその世界観に引き込まれる。CHIEKO BEAUTYのカバーはじめ多くの人に愛されてきた「Perfumed Garden」はアラビアの代表的な性典「匂える園」からの引用で妖しい夜の世界のファンタジー。シンセサイザーポップ、ジャジーフュージョン、ギャラクシー、ブラジル、90年代の宇宙観、少々の俗っぽさも魅力のエキゾチックポップ。シンセサイザーワークの素晴らしさ。奥さんLIZのヴォーカルも魅力。いいアルバム。 (サイトウ)
